MOA-INFERNO EQUUS.jpg

Title: INFERNO EQUUS

Price: £ 40,000
Dimensions:
H 160 cm W 140 cm D 100 cm

A mysterious composition of war horses on a burned antique base. This work, part of the TIER exhibit at MOA Museum, was exhibited with a painting of Dutch artist Armando. This painting, called 'Waldstuck 7-6-99', was saved from the fire in Armando's previous museum in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. The horses, who have antique cannonballs for eyes, seemed to galop into this dark burned forrest. One of the horses stands out because of his special manes that are curled like the wigs of 17th century french generals and notables. This refers to Lodewijk Napoleon who used to live in the building of MOA Museum. Altogether this is a very special art piece. One of the highlights of the TIER expo.

The works from the 'Unknown Poses Collection' are directly related to the DS&vT taxidermy process, which requires enormous patience and dedication. Before being mounted, the animal, reptile and bird skins are carefully bathed to ensure they are as clean and bright as possible. While these empty skins float in the soapy water, they seem to be revived back into life, performing a sort of graceful water ballet. Sinke and van Tongeren wanted to capture the magic of this poetic and mesmerising effect in these bold and spectacular photographs.
